Sustainability is an integral part of the InterContinental experience. Through considered practices and ongoing improvements, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact while supporting the people and communities around us.
As part of IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow, we are taking purposeful action to create a more sustainable future – embedding responsible choices into every aspect of our operations and ensuring each stay is delivered with care.
We participate in the IHG Green Engage™ system, a platform that helps us measure, manage and reduce our environmental impact through over 200 “Green Solutions” across energy, water and waste. We report monthly on key metrics and work towards ongoing reduction targets across all areas of operation.
Our initiatives have delivered a 52% reduction in electricity use, 48% in gas consumption and 47% in water usage, achieved through technology improvements, best practices and strong team engagement. We continue to build on this progress as part of our commitment to more sustainable operations.
We have replaced single-use plastic water bottles in guest rooms with reusable glass carafes, supported by filtered water stations on each guest floor. This initiative reduces plastic waste while ensuring convenient access to fresh, filtered water throughout the hotel, supporting a more sustainable guest experience without compromising comfort.
In addition, we are actively reducing single-use plastics across our operations by streamlining guest amenities, offering selected items on request, and limiting our core bathroom range to essential items only. We have also removed inner plastic packaging, introduced higher-quality reusable items, and expanded the use of recyclable and responsibly sourced alternatives, including products made from recycled materials and FSC-certified card packaging.
